Brenda 00:01:15 You're seeing spirits. You want to reclaim your energy or you're navigating your next chapter. This is your invitation to come home to yourself. Grab your seat at the table of Woohp podcast. Hello and welcome to the table of woo podcast. I'm your host Brenda Winkle. Today on the podcast we're going to be talking about energy. But before we even dive in right now I'm getting the image the picture of a sea otter. And it just dropped in as I closed my eyes to get centered. Before talking to you on this podcast episode, and I'm getting the image of play that you need more play in your life. So Invitation to figure out how you play. What does play look like for you? How can you have more fun? Because if you can take the energy of the sea otter and add a little bit more playfulness to your life and your work, you're actually going to elevate your energy in ways that you haven't yet begun to conceptualize. Why? Because your vibration is naturally going to be so much different when you're creating from a place of play and joy and just having some fun.
Brenda 00:02:34 So today we're going to be talking about energy. We're going to talk about how to protect your energy, why it matters, and we'll just see where that goes. Okay. So here's the thing. If you are drawn to this podcast, chances are you're highly compassionate. You probably have deep empathy. If you're not already an empath, you probably are intuitive, maybe, or even psychic. A mystic. Or maybe you're just curious. In any case, you probably have some sensitivities. You probably track emotions in the room. You probably can read emotions and situations. You probably can even read emotions in writing. Like when somebody sends you a text, you're like, oh, I know the energy behind that. So energy has no walls, right? I mean, that's why we have energy in, in cords and wires. Why we have it wrapped in electrical tape, why we have those. gosh, I'm losing the word. But, you know, the the rubbery coating on the outside of the wires, we have it there because we want to make sure that we can contain the electricity so that we don't get shocked.
Brenda 00:03:52 Right? Energy has no walls except for the walls that we give it. And so it's really important as an energetic being, as somebody with these intuitive, even psychic empathic gifts for you to manage and protect your own energy, to give it a little bit of a container. Why? Because if you're not doing that, you're literally leaking energy all over the place. You're leaking energy in ways that probably is okay for other people, but it's really depleting for you. So when we think about protecting your energy, there's a number of ways we can do this. We can learn to set better boundaries. We can learn to honor ourselves. We can learn. And by that I mean we can. Like, if you're tired, you can go rest. If you're thirsty, you can go get a drink. If you have to go to the bathroom, you can go to the bathroom. Those are all ways you can honor yourself. They're very tactile, very tangible, very everyday. But how do they add up? And oh my goodness.
Brenda 00:04:50 Do they matter? And then you can also actually protect your energy. So we're going to start there with the energy Protection. Okay, so let's say that you are going to a very, very busy place, whether it's your work or an airport or the mall or a concert, I'm going to teach you the zip up method. Okay. So the zip up method is where you're going to zip up your energetic field by creating a zipping motion from the base of your spine, like at your pubic bone. And you're going to zip up the front of your body in the middle, all the way up over the top of your head. And you need to do that three times. Just zipping, zipping, zipping. Invitation to try that. Now with me, unless you're driving. And you're going to notice an instant change where you actually feel a little bit more energetically sovereign. Now, once you've done that, I'm going to invite you to call back any energy that you may have left and send away any energy that you've picked up that's not yours.
Brenda 00:05:48 So calling back any energy that you've leaked. And for me, when I do this, I instantly feel something in my solar plexus. Maybe you'll feel it in your solar plexus, but maybe you'll feel it somewhere different. Just making space for you to have your own experience of this. So when you call back all your energy, you're probably going to feel more vibrant, more energized. You'll probably feel clearer, lighter, less emotional, and in a positive way. And you'll probably have an increased access to your intuition. This is really important stuff. And so the zip up method can be used kind of anytime, anywhere. I even like teaching this to children. So especially like if they're very sensitive and you're getting ready to send them off to school, teach them to zip up. It really will make a difference in their perception of the day, and it will help them to function in a very busy, chaotic people society. And it's also going to mean that you're taking on less emotion and energy from other people, so that you don't have to do so much energetic clearing.
Brenda 00:06:54 So the zip up method you can use again, anytime, anywhere. The one thing that I would caution you about is you don't necessarily want to zip up your energy when you're getting to go into a heart to heart conversation with a really close friend or your partner or a family member. And so just keep in mind that your intention matters as you zip up your energy. So if the intention is to create sovereignty, that's a little bit of a softer intention. So the sovereignty would be something really appropriate to use in a friendship or a romantic partnership, where you're not like protecting yourself from the energy that they might have. What you're doing instead is protecting your own sovereignty. Now, if you're in a really crowded, chaotic environment, let's say an airport, your intention is going to be a little bit different, and you're going to intend to maintain your energetic sovereignty, and you're also going to want to experience less of the energy from others. So your intention is going to be different. So keep in mind and use use your judgment, your discernment and allow for those nuances to come.
Brenda 00:08:10 In protecting your energy, it doesn't have to be all or nothing, in fact. My belief is it shouldn't be all or nothing. Now, there's one other really, really big benefit to using some kind of a zip up method. And I just also want to make space. Like if you like a different visualization, maybe you like a bubble up method. Great. Absolutely great. If it's working for you and you're getting the results that you want, keep doing it. Invitation to just maintain what you're doing. If it's working, if it's not working. Invitation to try the zip up method. It truly is my preferred method because I can zip it up and then I can zip it down depending on on the situation. But if you have deep empathy. the deep compassion and your intuitive. One of the most important things that happens when you begin to to protect your energy. Creating the sovereignty for yourself is you're going to notice that your intuitive gifts are elevated. And here's why. When you create that sovereignty from yourself, you're able to tell what's yours and what's not.
Brenda 00:09:21 And as soon as you're able to understand what's not yours. All of a sudden you have access to a lot of different kinds of energy. You'll be able to know things, feel things, sense things, hear things that you haven't before simply because you now have a better sense of what's yours. So if you are just wanting more access to your intuition, try this zip up method. If you're wanting to feel better more of the time, try this zip up method. If you notice yourself carrying a lot of emotion or being very affected by emotion of other people. Try this zip up method. It'll really help. And if you want to bring your psychic, your mediumship, your mystical gifts online, ooh, try this zip up method. And here's why it works. And it works. Whether or not you're in the intuitive arts. It will work if you're a teacher or a nurse or a therapist. Because energies, energies, energies, energy. So what can happen, especially with your type of gifts if you're drawn to this podcast, is that you can create what I call an energetic merge, and it happens really easily for you.
Brenda 00:10:36 And here's what it might look like. Let's say you're having a conversation with somebody. It could be a friend, a client, family member doesn't matter. And they're having a highly charged emotional experience. Let's just use the emotion of sadness for this particular illustration. But it could be anything. So let's say this person across from you is having this emotion of sadness. And next thing you know, you aren't just empathizing with them. You're feeling sad. You have a lump in your throat. You have tears in your eyes. And you're actually feeling as though the sadness is yours. Now, if you've been an empath your whole life and you've never learned how to manage your empathy, and you've never had anybody talk to you about this. You probably feel like that's a good thing and empathy is a good thing. Contrary to what Elon Musk says, empathy is essential for us, especially if you are any kind of a seeker or a mystic, or an intuitive or a healer. Empathy is absolutely essential. But if you're experiencing someone else's emotion or energy inside your own body, you're actually limiting your gifts.
Brenda 00:11:50 Why? Because then you're having your own emotions to process your own experiences, to process. And now you've added somebody else's. So if you're crying in the middle of your session with your Reiki client or your patient, if you're a doctor or you're a student, if you're a teacher, that's an energetic merge. And in my world, that's actually a sign of we need some energetic hygiene. It's actually not a good thing. Empathy is a good thing. Merging is not a good thing because it really limits your ability to tap into your own healing gifts. Because it's harder to find your own healing gifts because you're being impacted by their emotion and energies. And here's the thing. You have something really special and unique. And if you can't access that really special and unique thing, then it's going to be a lot easier for you to rely on cookie cutter stuff that you've heard. So if you learn to manage empathy by maintaining your actual empathy, but without wearing it like it's in your own body. You're going to unlock a superpower within.
Brenda 00:13:02 Because if you consider people like Peter Crone, they are very empathetic and empathic. But you'll never see Peter Crone crying, and that's because he's staying in his own sovereignty. So the more that you can learn to stay in your own sovereignty, the more you're going to have this unlock. And the cool thing about this is not only are you going to become more effective at what you do, but you're going to feel better when you're doing it and it's not going to be as energetically expensive. So please, please, please use the zip up method liberally. Share it with everybody you know, share it with your kids, teach it to people that you love, and if you feel so compelled, please share this podcast episode with people that you care about and love so that they can also learn to zip up because I'm telling you, it's a game changer. When I was about a teenager, probably I noticed and I think I noticed it earlier, but it really became present for me when I was a teenager because I lived in the small town in northwestern Nebraska called Chadron, and we used to go to the mall like once a month because the mall was 100 miles away in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Brenda 00:14:18 And if we wanted to go to a really big mall, we drove 300 miles to Denver. So shopping was kind of a big deal, and I don't think I cared enough about it before I was a teenager to where it was a problem. But when I was a teenager, I really wanted to go shopping in the mall, and what I would notice is I would shop for about 30 minutes and then I would feel physically ill. I would be sick to my stomach and I would have a killer headache. So I knew that I had this like expiration date and I didn't understand why. I just knew I had about 30 minutes to make my choices or I was going to have to leave. And I knew also that if I went into the mall and I started to feel physically ill, that if I went outside and I took a break, it could hit a reset button for me and then I could come back in. I told myself all kinds of things. Like at one point I was like, well, maybe I'm allergic to something.
Brenda 00:15:12 They're putting on the clothes. Like, is that possible? Is it possible there's air fresheners in the mall? And that's what's making me sick. I didn't know, but when I became a Reiki. Let's see. What is it? Reiki one, Reiki two. Somewhere in there. Reiki one or Reiki two. In 2015, I learned the zip up method, and what I learned was the whole time that I thought I was being sick because something was bugging me about the actual mall. I was actually absorbing so much energy from the people in the mall that it was making me physically ill. And so when I learned the zip up method, all of a sudden things changed and I could go to the mall for the first time in my life without feeling sick. It was like the heavens going to open up and saying I was so happy. And it's not like I necessarily want to go shopping to the mall all the time. But it created an unlock for me because I was able to feel less ill after a concert because I was a choir director and I was like, sometimes I would have concerts with, you know, thousand people in the audience, and it was a lot of energy.
Brenda 00:16:21 But once I learned this, it was like things started to unlock. Why? Because I felt better. I had my own sovereignty. And so the same can be true for you. So if you find yourself avoiding large crowds and, you know, feeling sick in certain circumstances, I'm not saying that it will necessarily change your constitution. Like zipping up isn't going to turn you into an extrovert if you're an introvert, but it will make it so that you can go into these spaces without feeling bad for so much longer. And then the other piece is because you're so much more effective at what you do, you're going to notice that it takes less energy for you to do it. So zipping up, in my opinion, that's like round one ground round one. Does that even make sense? I think you know what I mean. It's like the first step and it's something really, really, really important. So I would love to know if you try it. I really do want to know if you try it.
Brenda 00:17:25 Connect with me over on Instagram. I'm also on Facebook and I want to know if you try the zip up method. What happens? I've taught this to clients who've taught it to their children and like one of my clients, her name is Kendra and she taught this to her daughter when she was in like early high school. And at the time, her daughter was experiencing a lot of stress and anxiety about school. And once she learned the zip up method, everything changed and she had the courage to try out for a sports team, which she was, accepted into. And it changed the trajectory of her high school career just by learning the zip up method. And so I'd love for you to try this with children, with kids you love, with students, with patience, with clients. Teach it to everyone you know. It is seriously a game changer. And I am going to prepare, a PDF for you if you want it. I'll just put the link in the show notes. You can grab a PDF so you can also print this off and share it with anybody that you want to.
Brenda 00:18:31 And yeah, so when we come back to thinking about energy and the zip up method, remember in the intro that I talk about an energy audit. So this week I've been working on a nutrition audit for a health program that I'm a part of. I joined transform with Ali Novitsky. It's my personal carry my groceries until I'm in my 90s plan. So it's like strength and mindset and nutrition and health. All the things. So I'm in a nutrition audit. It's a one week audit where I'm just I'm not modifying anything. I'm eating. I'm just auditing it I'm tracking it. And so on day one, I opened my little tracker and I entered my breakfast. And I've been telling myself that this particular breakfast was really healthy and it was low calorie, and it was low sugar because it was, well, I'm feeling a little silly, but I'll just tell you. so I was eating Greek yogurt with berries and, a high protein granola, and I was telling myself that it was pretty low calorie and pretty healthy.
Brenda 00:19:40 But what I found when I tracked it, it is healthy. Don't get me wrong, but what I found when I tracked it is it was much higher in calories than I was telling myself it was. And it was much higher, in fact, than I was telling it myself. It was. And it was much higher in sugar than I was telling myself it was. And if I hadn't have tracked it, I wouldn't know that. And so I was mentally telling myself I was having a 400 calorie breakfast, and I was actually having like a 680 calorie breakfast. That's a big difference. And so when I'm telling you how important it is to track, I'm telling you this from my personal experience in a different context. So when we talk about tracking energy, tracking energy is equally as important. It's not like you have to track it every day, but track it for a while, track it for long enough that you can start to see some patterns emerging, and so that you can really get a sense of, oh, I feel really good and energized when I do this thing.
Brenda 00:20:37 I feel depleted when I do that thing because I'm telling you, it makes such a difference. So go grab that energy on it. It's free. And I also have a digital one that's like with dropdown arrows. It's kind of fancy. And once you get the energy on it, if you want a digital copy, just hit reply to the email that will be sent as soon as you sign up for that audit, and I will send you the digital copy. I mean, tell me what you're sending me the email about so that I don't just I anyway, you get it, tell me what you want and then I will send you the the digital copy. No charge. Just because I think some people will function better with a digital copy. And, I'm super excited. I just want to tell you about some things that are coming down the road. I have a chakra class that I'm hosting on May 20th 2122. And the reason that I'm hosting this is I feel like chakras are such a beautiful starting point when we're talking about energy, because when you understand chakras, you can start to understand how your body is impacted and how sometimes a misaligned chakra can actually feed into thinking errors.
Brenda 00:21:52 And so like, for example, if one day you wake up, you realize you haven't slept well, your lower back is achy, maybe your hips are achy, your legs feel funny, and you notice your thoughts are around your home and security. You might be feeling a little bit worried, or maybe you're feeling a little bit worried about money. If all of those things are happening on the same day, that is a sure sign that you have a root chakra imbalance. And so if we know that and the reason I'm using this as an example is because this happened to me this week, and I woke up and I was like, oh, this is a root chakra imbalance. And then I knew exactly what to do to bring that back into balance. And it works instantly. So I'm going to be teaching you how to recognize signs of imbalance, and then I'm going to teach you how to bring them back into balance in this workshop. And I'll put the link in the show notes. And it's an investment of $111, and you'll have access to a replay for 30 days.
Brenda 00:22:50 And then if you love this and you want to go further. I'm teaching Reiki one and Reiki two in June this year. So if you're interested in Reiki, just send me a message on Instagram or send me an email. Brenda Brenda Winkel. Com I don't have any pages for you to register on yet. just let me know if you're interested because this will be a limited seat event. There won't. It's not going to be like as many people as can fit. It'll be limited. simply because that's how I'm going to do my best teaching for this. So Reiki one will be in early June and Reiki two will be in late June, and Reiki two is going to be in person in the Portland area, and Reiki one is going to be virtual. So if you've been thinking about wanting your Reiki one certification and you don't want to have to travel, that might be really fun for you. So when I have registration pages ready, I'll let you know. But like I said, feel free to reach out and get on the waiting list if you want.
Brenda 00:23:48 Okay. So I would love to know if you're going to try the zip up method and if it makes a difference for you. Now, one of the objections that people have right away to using the zip up method is but I don't want to lose my empathy. I don't want people to think I don't care. I love being an empath. And you know what? It's a beautiful thing that you have this empathy. And here's the other cool thing. When you zip up, you're not going to not know how people feel. You'll still feel it, but you won't feel it in your body. You'll still know, oh, this person is sad. This person is frustrated. This person is excited. You'll still know all that, but you won't experience it as weight in your own body. And at first, there's a little bit of a feeling, at least for me. I was like, oh, I feel like I'm cheating this system a little bit. And I felt a little bit cheated, like, oh, I kind of liked feeling everybody's everything all the time.
Brenda 00:24:50 this was like in 2015. And I remember, like, having to come to terms with not feeling everything for everybody all the time. But, you know, what happened is that was the beginning of my spiritual evolution. Like, it just took off as soon as I realized I needed to protect my energy. And so it's really, really, really important. And remember at the beginning I said, this is nuanced and you can take it down. You can take it down. Like if you zip it up and you're like, this is not for me. Take it down. It's not like it's permanent. It's not permanent marker. In fact, this leads me to one more thing we haven't talked about. I'd invite you to think about this as, like, brushing your teeth. It's not like you brush your teeth once and then you're done, right? Instead, you brush your teeth twice a day, whether you need it or not. My invitation would be that you zip up twice a day whether you need it or not, and for about five years, not joking for five years from 2015 to 2020.
Brenda 00:25:46 I had a reminder on my phone that went off every morning at 7 a.m. that said zip up because I was a teacher during that time, and when I learned to zip up, everything felt so much better in my body and in my teaching. And so it was worth it for me to set an alarm on my phone. So invitation to go give that a try. Okay. Thank you so much for listening to the Table of Food podcast. I hope this has been helpful for you. I hope you've learned something. I hope you'll try something and I have a request. Could you please leave the podcast a rating and review wherever you're listening? Because it's a brand new podcast. Nobody knows about it. And so if you could leave it a rating and review, it will really help the podcast begin to grow. And if you loved this episode, would you please consider sharing it with someone that you cared about? Thank you for being here. Bye for now. Until next time.
