I know what it feels like to be highly perceptive and highly responsible at the same time.

Early in my leadership career, I was known for being capable, thoughtful, and able to anticipate what was needed before anyone asked.

These qualities helped me build a successful career in music education, where I led programs, developed teams, and created environments where others could thrive.

But over time, I began noticing something many empathic leaders eventually encounter:

being capable of carrying more…
doesn’t always mean it is yours to carry.

Even when I knew what I wanted, I often found myself factoring in everyone else’s needs, expectations, and reactions before making decisions.

Externally, everything appeared aligned.

Internally, decisions required more energy than they should have.

A pivotal moment came after returning home from a leadership conference feeling expanded and clear about what I wanted next.

Within hours, I found myself overwhelmed ... not because I lacked clarity, but because I could feel the complexity of how change might impact the people around me.

That moment began a process of learning how to distinguish:
